California VA Loan Limits

2017  VA Effective Loan Limits

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Loan Guaranty program does not set a maximum amount that an eligible Veteran may borrow using a VA-guaranteed loan. Lenders may make loans to Veterans over the calculated maximum loan limit; however, lenders may require Veterans to make a down payment in these types of transactions. You can exceed the County VA Loan limit when buying a home by contributing a down payment equal to 25% of the amount over your County Loan limit.

For example, in San Diego County, where the VA Loan Limit is $612,950, if you bought a home for $700,000 your down payment requirement would only be $21,762.50.  That is a VERY small down payment for a jumbo size loan.   This is unheard of with other Jumbo loan programs.  We have programs that many other lenders do not and we are able to go up to $1,500,000 on a VA purchase with a 680 or higher credit score.

NOTE: For all counties other than those listed below, the limit is $424,100.
