A jumbo mortgage is a loan for any amount above the Conforming Loan Limit that is set annually by the Federal Housing Finance Agency. Jumbo Loans are not eligible for purchase by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac, two government sponsored mortgage corporations, and must be sold in the secondary market – which means they carry slightly higher interest rates.
